The North Salem Central School District Audit Committee is charged with providing independent assistance to the Board of Education in the oversight of external and internal audits and their related controls.
The Audit Committee is currently composed of six (6) members -- three (3) community members and three (3) Board of Education members. The Board of Education appoints all members of the committee and they serve without compensation in staggered two (2) year terms. All members of the Audit Committee must be residents of the District.
Members of the Audit Committee must collectively possess knowledge of accounting, auditing, financial reporting and how to evaluate internal controls of a business office. In addition, committee members will be required to sign confidentiality agreements and may not reveal any confidential information obtained during the exercise of their duties.
The duties of the Audit Committee are set forth in the Audit Committee Charter, which is attached. The Audit Committee meets at least five times each year. As a public body the audit committee is subject to the requirements of the Open Meetings Law.
