North Salem School District was represented with pride and respect at the traditional North Salem Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30th, as our community paid tribute to our fallen war heroes, the Women who flew planes in World War II, and those men and women who served or are serving in the military.
At 10:00 a.m. Monday morning, just as the sun appeared from behind the storm clouds, our High School Band, under the direction of Mr. Stephen Austin, played Gallant Entry, with great force, as they marched from Oakridge Road to the Westchester Exceptional Children's School. Service songs played by the Band along the parade route included: Anchors Aweigh, Caissons, Marine Hymn, and Air Force Song -- alternating with Percussion Marching Cadences. The Star Spangled Banner was played with perfection by our Band Members at the Wreath Ceremony and all was profoundly quiet during Mr. Stephen Austin's moving tribute of Taps.
Many North Salem students (K-12 and former graduates) participated in the parade and memorial service as members of our Community's public service, recreational, and scouting organizations.
