Mary Kathyrn Johnson Appointed as New PQ Principal
The North Salem Central School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Mary Kathyrn Johnson as the new Principal of Pequenakonck Elementary School. Mrs. Johnson follows Roberta Reiner, who announced her retirement this spring after serving as PQ principal for fourteen years.
Mrs. Johnson is an experienced elementary school leader who has served in capacities of assistant principal and principal for 20 years, following her teaching experience in grades one and two. After serving as the assistant principal of Redding (CT) Elementary School for 12 years, a community very similar to North Salem, Mrs. Johnson is currently the principal of Stadley Rough Elementary School in Danbury, CT.
Mrs. Johnson holds a Masters degree from Harvard University in Teaching, Curriculum and Learning Environments and is working on completion of her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Connecticut.
The selection process included interviews with the Superintendent and a broad based selection committee with parent, faculty, staff and administrative members. Finalists were interviewed by the Board of Education last week.
“We are pleased to welcome Mary Johnson to North Salem,” commented Superintendent Ken Freeston. Mary is an accomplished educational leader whose experience, skills and talents match our needs in North Salem.”
Mrs. Johnson will start on August 1, 2012.
