Fall 2010

Dear North Salem Community,   

The goal of The Foundation for Learning is to provide grants to our teachers and students for innovative programs that enrich the educational experience.  Since 1996, The Foundation for Learning has awarded approximately $105,000 in grants and scholarships to The North Salem School District.     We proudly list the following grants and scholarships we awarded for 2009-2010:

- June 2010 marked the fourteenth annual Celebration of Scholars.  The Foundation honored excellence in education by presenting scholarships in the amount of $500 each to ten student scholars in each of the curriculum areas.  

- Induction of The North Salem Chapter of the National English Honor Society (NEHS) for high school students.  Membership in the NEHS is an honor bestowed on students selected for their accomplishments in the field of English and in overall academic achievement.  

- Middle School students experienced an education in increased awareness and knowledge of water resources with a full day water festival, PROJECT WET.  

-Mr. Ron Hendrie’s Technology class received a grant to develop a cost-effective Savonius Wind Powered Generator prototype so that it may be used in the future as one of the projects in the Energy & Power Course.

-We provided a grant to the North Salem Middle/High School Garden project.

-Our fundraising efforts include: homecoming celebration, Raffle, events during the school year, community golf outing, and sponsors.

The North Salem Foundation for Learning, Inc. was established more than ten years ago in support of education excellence for all North Salem students. The North Salem Foundation for Learning seeks to enhance the education and scholastic opportunities of all North Salem students by providing financial support for worthy projects not supported by the school budget, increasing community awareness, facilitating student learning, and working together with School organizations.
