Preparing for Senior Exhibition Night

O.P.T.I.O.N.S. Grades

The O.P.T.I.O.N.S. program is an optional, credit-bearing, full year course for seniors that endeavors to build bridges between school and the career world. It encourages seniors to explore careers of personal interest, to use community talent/expertise to enhance their learning, and to apply the gained skills/knowledge to the design/implementation of the Senior Project. The Senior Exhibition fulfills the required exit-outcome for graduation.

The O.P.T.I.O.N.S. Curriculum

The O.P.T.I.O.N.S. curriculum includes topics which prepare our seniors to function in college and/or the workplace. The curriculum includes a senior activities component which addresses our seniors’ immediate needs as they leave high school, and a life skills component, which prepares our seniors to cope with an ever-changing world.

The O.P.T.I.O.N.S. Senior Project

The O.P.T.I.O.N.S. Senior Project is an original piece of student work. The project format consists of either a mentored internship/paper or an independent research project. Students develop and submit a project proposal, which includes a statement of objective, pertinent focus questions which the project intends to explore, a project timeline, which assures successful completion, mentor sponsorship, and detailed discussion of the resources needed and the availability of those resources.

An oral presentation of the project proposal allows students to begin the internship process.

Work begins during the third marking period on a limited basis and continues into the fourth marking period on a full-time basis during periods 7, 8, and 9 and beyond.

Students work on/off campus as stated in their project proposal. Students working on-campus work in designated areas supervised by the faculty advisors. Students working off-campus are supervised by their mentor.
