PQ Students Turn Positive Behavior Into $1,000 Gift
Students at North Salem’s Pequenakonck Elementary School rose to a challenge they were given in September, turning good behavior into good deeds. By earning 48,000 tickets for good behavior through the year, they secured a $1,000 gift to the charitable organization Friends of Karen, donated by local business Raymond Opticians. >>More Information

Fourth Graders Sail the Hudson
The fourth grade sailed the Hudson as a culminating activity for their study of the Hudson River, its history, music and ecology. The students learned the jobs on a sailing ship and the importance of preserving this natural resource. PQ 5th Graders Create Podcast Book Reviews
Members of the 5th Grade after school Library Media Club are joining the world of podcasting. They begin by writing book review scripts of their favorite reads, including Tall Tree Award nominations. Using Audacity, a free recording program, the 5th graders recorded their book reviews and then mixed royalty free music into their soundtrack. Mr. MacCarry guided his Library Media Club in mastering Audacity and choosing music to enhance their podcasts. The program began with Mrs. Tait’s class who wrote outstanding book reviews...

Getting Fishy at PQ
Educators from Hudson River Sloop Clearwater visited Pequenakonck Elementary School recently, bringing eels and other samples of Hudson River life to prepare fourth graders for a day on The Clearwater, a sloop designed after 18th- and 19th-century Dutch sailing ships.

Fourth graders study the Hudson River, its ecosystem, and its watershed, which ties in with their study of the geography and history of New York State.>> More Information and Picture Gallery
