Hi Everybody,

Happy Thanksgiving!  I hope you all enjoy some family time and good food.  I know the children are excited.  Thank you to all who contributed to the Thanksgiving Baskets.  It is wonderful to see our children learning about supporting others in need.

The paraprofessionals remind me that Pequenakonck's nickname is Windy Hill for a reason.  Please dress your children in layers including a warm coat.

Tomorrow is an early dismissal day.  No lunch will be served.  Students will be dismissed at 11:30 AM.  I wish you all safe travels.

The Running Club Ceremony is scheduled for Monday, November 28th.  I thank Rob Gilchrist, the volunteer high school track students and the Northern Westchester Hospital Center for partnering to give our students this opportunity.

December 1st is Parent Teacher Conference Day.  There is no student attendance on this day.  The Girl Scouts will offer childcare beginning at 2:30 PM.  We look forward to seeing you at PQ for your conferences and of course the Fall Book Fair.  Please remember there is no letter day on a non-student attendance day.  This means that Friday will be F day.

Hi Everybody,

PQ will be collecting food for Thanksgiving Baskets again this year.  The food will be donated to the North Salem League.  Some ideas for items are boxed instant potatoes, cans of sweet potatoes, boxed stuffing, packages of cookies, cans of cranberry sauce and boxed cake mixes.  Please make sure all items are not perishable.  Thank you for supporting those in need.

Dr. Barsh gave a wonderful presentation at this month's PTO meeting.  I learned about nutrition and healthy lifestyles.  I wish to thank Dr. Barsh for his continued support of PQ.

The Mommy and Daddy Band will entertain the PQ students and staff on Friday, December 23rd, at 9:15 AM in the PQ gym.  John O'Meara informs us that, Any interested singers or musicians can call me at 917-733-5887 or email me at jomeara@hafeleamericas.com.

The Student Council election date has been changed.  All speeches will be on Monday, November 21st.  Interested candidates will have their speeches reviewed the week before.  I wish all the candidates good luck.

Hi Everybody,

I hope everyone has power restored.  We are hearing casual conversations from our children about the benefits of generators and sleepover visits to out of state family.  They seem well adapted to this new weather reality.  I cannot thank the food service program enough for having a hot breakfast and lunch available everyday last week.

We are trying a new pick up program at 3:00.  Parents are asked to enter the gym doors and meet their children in the library.  We hope this system will be better for our students.  The gym hallway was too crowded to assure safety.  I remind you to arrive early.  2:55 is the optimum time.  Thanks for the support.

On Wednesday, November 9th, at 6:30 PM, in the PQ Library, the Title I teachers, Mimma Bartholdi, Amy Hester, Beth Maier and Jennifer Martz will present ideas and strategies for supporting your primary student's learning of reading, writing and understand mathematics.   This is a great evening to learn about your role in supporting your child's education.

This is a short week.  Thursday and Friday are non-attendance days for students.  On Thursday the staff is working to revise the grade level curriculum maps to meet the new Common Core State Standards that will be implemented in literacy and math next year.  Friday is Veteran's Day.

Donna DeMeo encourages you to read the 2011-2012 Flu Guide that is posted on the PQ page of the web site.  Go to the web site, click on the PQ icon, go to the Health Office link on the left side and click on the bottom link about flu.  The flu season is quickly approaching.

Have a great week.

Hi Everybody,

I hope you are all safe and have endured yet another weather related inconvenience.  Lunch and breakfast will be available on a modified menu this week.  Please remember we do not skip letter days for school closing dates.  Wednesday, November 2, 2011 is an A day.  Let us know how we can help you.

November is a very busy month at PQ.  Please check the website for events.  Donna DeMeo, reminds us that physical examinations are required for all students in grades K, 2, and 4.  A list of immunizations is not the same as a physical exam.  If we do not have one on file you will receive a letter from the health office.

The trip to the Salem Hills Nursing Home has been postponed.  Mrs. Donofrio, Mrs. Mittelstadt, Mrs. Heisey and Mrs. Paproski will inform you of any future plans.

The PTO is rescheduling picture re-take day.  We will advertise the new day in a future Tuesday Newsday.

Dismissal has become difficult in the gym hallway.  This week we are trying a new strategy.  All parents are asked to come in the gym door and proceed to the library.  You will sign for your children and exit through the gym doors.  We are hoping with more room we will be able to accommodate the large number of students that are dismissed to parents.  Please remember to sign for your children and leave immediately to avoid crowding.  Thank you for your support.

North Salem Middle/High School

Welcome to Tuesday Newsday on Wednesday!  We hope you have been safe during the difficulties of the last few days.  Please note that the Middle School picture re-takes will be held tomorrow Thursday as planned and that breakfast and lunch is available for purchase in our school cafeteria although the menu will be modified this week.  The first marking period will close on Wednesday November 9 and report cards will be available on Parent Portal beginning November 15.  As scheduled on the school calendar there is no school for students on Thursday November 10 (Professional Development Day) and school is closed Friday, November 11 for Veteran's Day.

Is it too early to think about spring?  Have a good week.
