Pequenakonck Elementary School

Dear PQ Parents:

Important information from the Nurse's Office: Please see the attached letters from the Nurse's Office. These have important information about new regulations related to medications as well as other health office information.

Fifth Grade Recognition Ceremony: The Fifth Grade Recognition Ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 22nd at 10:00 am at the MSHS.

Returning Library Books: All books are due back to the library at this time. Students with outstanding books will receive letters in their backpacks. If a student has lost a book, it must be paid for before the end of the school year.

Summer Reading: The theme of this year’s PQ Summer Reading program is the “Happy Camper: Take a Reading Adventure” sponsored by Scholastic. The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge is a free online reading program that invites children to log their reading minutes all summer long. The PQ challenge for students entering kindergarten, first, and second grade is to read 1000 minutes this summer. Students entering third, fourth, and fifth grade are challenged to read 1400 minutes. A letter about the program will be going home with students this week. You can access the summer reading program information at www.tiny.url/pqsummer. (You may need to type the url into your browser.)

Girl Scout Silver Award and Summer Reading: Please see the attached flyer another way to encourage summer reading. This is being run by two former PQ students who love reading!!

School Supplies: Last day to order school supplies is June 21st – don’t miss out to have supplies ready for pickup at Open House Day.

With the passage of the FY 2018 State Budget, New York is now home to the nation's first accessible college program - The Excelsior Scholarship.

Under this groundbreaking program, more than 940,000 middle-class families and individuals making up to $125,000 per year will qualify to attend college tuition-free at all CUNY and SUNY two- and four-year colleges in New York State. The new program begins in the fall of 2017 and will be phased in over three years.

FIELD DAY: PQ Field Day is this Friday, June 16th. Please make sure student come to school wearing sunscreen and with a water bottle! We are looking forward to a fun day!

A REMINDER TO SENIOR PARENTS

If you would like scholarship information announced at Graduation, please submit attached form by Thursday, June 15th to Mrs. Martell in the Principal's Office as soon as possible.

 

Congratulations to the Class of 2017 and their Families and Friends

The North Salem community is invited to share our pride as we celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2017 on Monday, June 19 at Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts in Katonah, New York.

 

The gates will be opened at 5:30 pm and tickets for admission will be available on site.  The ceremony will begin promptly at 6:30 pm.

 

Guests are reminded that Caramoor will not permit items such as balloons, confetti, silly string, objects making explosive noises such as poppers and water guns.  Coolers and glass bottles are not permitted on the grounds.  Only plastic water bottles are allowed.

 

The entire ceremony will also be streamed live through our district website; the link to view the ceremony will open at 6:30 pm on the district webpage.

 

We hope you join us as we celebrate the accomplishments of the 2017 graduates of North Salem High School.

FIELD DAY POSTPONED: The PQ Field Day scheduled for June 9th is POSTPONED until June 16th. Mr. Gilchrist and Mr. Mackenzie will be traveling to the NYS Baseball championships on June 9th and we really need them to be with us on Field Day! We wish them luck and look forward to our Field Day on the 16th!
