    The Curriculum

The elementary program utilizes a variety of approaches to deliver curriculum. Instruction is guided by learning styles and state standards. Our reading and writing workshops are the cornerstone of our literacy instruction.  Inquiry-based mathematics and science curriculum enhance student learning in accordance with our mission promoting problem solving and critical and creative thinking.  Teachers involve students in large and small group activities, and individual instruction. Complimenting the academic curriculum is our social emotional programming as part of a comprehensive PBIS program, promoting positive student behavior. In addition to the classroom curriculum, all children participate in programs provided by the art, music, library, and physical education specialists. Spanish instruction is being introduced for all students beginning in the 2018-19 school year. Devices are available in the Media Center and technology is well-integrated into all classrooms.

    Beyond the Curriculum

Beyond the basic curriculum, the elementary program includes instrumental music classes, a grade 3 – 5 program for gifted youngsters, after-school activities, field trips, special education, speech and language services, remedial reading, remedial math and reading recovery.

A school nurse, psychologists, occupational therapist, and a diagnostic team of teachers are available according to student needs. Students in grades one through five may participate in the Student Council. Meetings are held after school each month and are facilitated by two staff members. This group helps plan special events and fundraisers for PQ. They offer suggestions to help our school be a positive learning environment for all students.

Our active PTO is an important partnership promoting PARP and many other programs that support the student experience at PQ.
