Sixth graders in Mr. Pedane's class worked in groups to select a song and deconstruct the song by analyzing the musical instruments used in it, its lyrics, and beats. Students identified changes that occurred in the song they selected. Students then represented these changes through visual presentations they shared with the class.
The work done in this class represents computational thinking in that students are collecting data from a song; analyzing the data by making sense of it and drawing conclusions; depicting and organizing the data into images; (decomposition) breaking down the task into smaller manageable parts; and then creating an algorithm by making a series of ordered steps to achieve their final presentations.
Thank you Mr. Pedane and your students for your critical and creative thinking!
