Student-Driven Inquiry & Discussion

Students in Mr. Hotaling's class engaged and led a discussion to decide if Pluto was a planet based upon Pluto's characteristics and its distance and relationship to the Kuiper belt.  Students pushed each other to justify their opinions with actual data.  Students questioned one another and provided facts to validate their thinking.  Mr. Hotaling assisted in facilitating this conversation by providing the topic and information students needed to hold their discussion.  The learning in this class reflects our North Salem Profile of a Graduate in that students used their critical thinking skills to analyze, validate, and evaluate their perspectives as well as their communication skills through active listening and effective public speaking.
