Learning to Write Dialogue in 2nd Grade

Students in Mrs. Castellano and Mrs. Savarese's seocond grade class were learning about writing dialogue.  The students engaged in this learning in a fun way by having a dialogue battle.  The students worked in small groups as either the character David or David's mom.  The learning task was to study a specific page, determine the character's point of view for the given page/event, then create and write a line of dialogue (with a tag and quotation marks) to match the situation.  This learning connects to our Profile of a North Salem Graduate as our students are developing their communicaiton skills by learning effective writing skills including conventions, subject, purpose and audience.
