PQ Water Advisory
Water Advisory Issued for PQ and many other Westchester County Schools
We have just been notified by the NY DOH that our routine water testing program has identified the presence of contaminants in water at PQ and that we will be under a drinking water advisory effective immediately. Evidently several other Westchester County school districts have also tested positive and will be under the same advisory later today.
We will have more information from the Westchester DOH shortly with the formal public notice and details about the contaminants PFOA and PFOS. The tests for PFOA and PFOS are new requirements this year. The DOH will work closely with us on how to best address both short and long term remedies.
We are making arrangements today to obtain and install an alternate water source to supply water to the building while we address the situation.
Until that tank is installed later today the water at PQ can still be used for washing hands, flushing toilets, and cleaning kitchen equipment.
What is being done to meet the MCL?
Pequenakonck Elementary School is working with the Westchester County Department of Health on a compliance schedule that includes steps to reduce levels of PFOA.Additional information will be shared as further testing and progress occurs. This process is similar for any chemical detected in public drinking water that requires mitigation due to exceedance of an MCL. The compliance timetable will ensure that your drinking water will meet the MCL as rapidly as possible.
